J. Scott Young, Ph.D., NCC, LPC

I received my Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1996, and have worked as a professional counselor since 1990. I am a  Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of North Carolina (LPC #2123) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC #35904). Currently I am the Chair of Department of Counseling and Educational Development at the UNCG. I have been seeing clients at Triad Counseling and Clinical Services since 2010.

My areas of specialization include individual, couple, family and group counseling with adults and adolescents. All therapies and techniques I apply are well established, researched and respected by mental health professionals. I work with clients from a strength-based approach so that existing client resources are utilized to solve problems. In addition I take an educative style to working with people and encourage clients to learn more about the approaches to counseling I use (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioral, Family Systems, Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, Solution-Focused, Gestalt).  Typical client concerns I treat are listed below.
